How to install the ASPI drivers
Since VCDEasy 2, ASPI is no more need on Windows NT / 2000 / XP, as it can use SPTI (a built-in Windows, equivalent to ASPI):
So if you are using VCDEasy 2 on Windows NT/2000/XP, do not bother with ASPI installation (except if your CD writer requires a special ASPI layer in order to be detected/used)
ASPI allows software to communicate with CD drives (SCSI, IDE, EIDE, USB, Firewire…).
Important Note: if you do not want to install/change your ASPI drivers, or if VCDEasy won't still be able to use your CD writer to burn CDs, you should know that you still can create VideoCDs with VCDEasy and burn them using another burning software.
VCDEasy does not come with its ASPI drivers, but VCDEasy can be used with Nero's ASPI or Adaptec's ASPI.
Based on users' feedback, I recommend you to try with Nero's ASPI first.
How to install Nero's ASPI for VCDEasy
Windows NT4/2000/XP
IMPORTANT: you must have administrator privileges in order to use Nero's ASPI.
Providing VCDEasy with Nero's ASPI on Windows NT4/2000/XP is very easy:
Simply install Nero Burning Rom (even the demo version - www.nero.com). VCDEasy will detect it, and use its ASPI.
Windows 9x/Me
There are two steps for providing VCDEasy with Nero's ASPI on Windows 9x/Me
1) Install Nero Burning Rom (even the demo version - www.nero.com).
2) Download Nero's ASPI for Windows 9x/Me:
Launch NeroAspiEn.exe, this will extract some files, including one called "Readme.txt". Follow the instructions in this "Readme.txt" file in order to install Nero's ASPI for Win9x/Me.
Once done, restart VCDEasy, then you should see and be able to select "Nero" in the ASPI dropdown list in VCDEasy:
How to install Adaptec's ASPI for VCDEasy
Important Note: Version differences can make a huge difference, for example, ASPI 4.60 may work just perfectly for your CD writer while ASPI 4.70 may not work...
If you want to install ASPI v4.60, ASPI version is known to works great with CDRDAO, you should use ForceASPI 1.7 to install it. Search the web for "ForceASPI" to find it, and read its file named "index.html" to have instructions on using it. ForceASPI (Adaptec ASPI v4.60 in fact) works with Win98, WinME, WinNT, and Win2000 .. regardless of your particular system configuration. It also works fine with WinXP, as reported by many happy WinXP users.
Once done, restart VCDEasy, then you should see and be able to select "Adaptec" in the ASPI dropdown list in VCDEasy.
